Recommended places to visit and things to do in the local area

St Andrews and the surrounding area has a wide range of places to visit and things to do other than golf.  These places change from year to year but I have listed a few of my favourites and told you why I think it’s worth a visit.  Enjoy!

BOTANIC GARDENS

The garden is a beautiful and peaceful place to visit. There is lots to see over the 18 acre site including a rock garden, rhododendron glade, pond, pinetum and much more! – PAM

R&A GOLF MUSEUM

Inspired by the extraordinary history of the game. From its humble beginnings to the global sport it is today the museum explores golf from the 16th century to the present day, A great venue for golf fans  – PAM

THE BYRE THEATRE

Opened by Sir Sean Connery in 2001, this superb 216-seat theatre plays host to a wide range of events during the year as well as a conference room and bar/restaurant. – PAM

FIFE COASTAL PATH WALKS

The Cambo Sands (also known as Kingsbarns Beach) to St Andrews follows a beautiful stretch of coast over some rough terrain with views and countryside that is truly breathtaking in places. – PAM

WARDLAW MUSUEM

Free entry with interactive experiences for all ages, dedicated times for quiet visits, audio guides in a variety of languages and a beautiful sea view from the terrace and garden, the museum is a major cultural space for St Andrews. – PAM

KINGSBARNS DISTILLERY

There are distillery tours suitable for all levels of whisky interest each include a visit to the exhibition, a tour of our distillery and tasting with knowledgable guides. – PAM

THE CASTLE & CATHEDRAL

These two sites are steeped in history, caught in the Protestant Reformation struggle for hearts and minds!  Both are great to visit with an excellent visitor centre next to the castle. – PAM

SCOTLAND’S SECRET BUNKER

A fascinating, sobering, and ever so slightly chilling experience. Come face to face, perhaps for the first time, with the reality of the very different ending that episode in our history might have reached. – PAM

CAMBO GARDENS

Meander through magical gardens and woodlands to our award-winning beach. Enjoy lunches and homebaking inspired by the gardens and woodland bounty. – PAM

CRAIGTOUN PARK

With free entry, free parking and on-site café, Craigtoun really is the ideal place for a family day out.  The park is open all year round and visitors can enjoy free facilities such as the Adventure Playground, Trampolines,  Trim Trail and a 30ft Zip Wire. – PAM
